Hotel Review: Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta, Georgia

Whether you're traveling on the job or on vacation, the five-star Mandarin Oriental Atlanta caters exquisitely to both leisure and business guests alike. Blending southern hospitality with exotic traditions, the luxury hotel welcomes visitors with a personally-customized experience. The building's feng shui design invites positive energy from the moment you walk into the lobby which is decorated with beautiful locally-curated artwork, plush upscale furnishings, and the property's unique hand-painted signature fan which depicts the Oriental heritage of the esteemed global brand. Upon arriving, extremely courteous customer service representatives at the adjacent check-in area were efficient and particularly gracious to us as they walked around from behind the desk to make our transactions person-to-person.

The iconic 42-story high-rise, designed by celebrated American architect Robert A.M. Stern, offers sophisticated residential living as well as 127 spacious rooms and suites with the starting superior category being the largest available in the city. After having been on the road for an extended amount of time, we appreciated our exceptionally comfortable Mandarin-level room which featured a subdued color palette, luxuriously understated decor, and soft-touch lamp switches that triggered light to increase steadily rather than abruptly. The large dark-wood working desk contained easily-accessible electrical outlets, a convenient iPod docking station, USB ports, and high-speed Internet access with high-quality bandwidth thereby providing everything we needed to set up a temporary office space. Further technology also included a state-of-the-art entertainment system including a flat-screen HD television with LED.

In order to alleviate the prevalent tendency to feel somewhat disoriented or out of place during any overnight hotel stay, the Mandarin Oriental has exceeded expectations in creating a notably peaceful and intentionally tranquil environment. The quality of rest and sound sleep we were afforded by the goose down duvets, luxury Rivolta linens, and just-exactly-right pillows simply cannot be overstated. Providing an in-room spa-like experience as a focal point of rejuvenation, each bathroom is generously appointed with a deep soaking tub, separate walk-in marble shower, and twin basins along with generously-sized towels, plush terrycloth bathrobes, and amenities by Aromatherapy Associates which showcase fragrances representing a blend of the five Chinese elements.

As this Quintessence line of products exemplifies the signature scent at the 15,000-square-foot onsite spa, so the Peaches and Cream is offered as its signature treatment. Ideal after a long day of shopping and sightseeing, our appointment for this indulgent 1-hour and 45-minute journey began with the ancient custom of foot washing and an invigorating body exfoliation scrub with skin-softening results that were still clearly noticeable even several days later. Gentle music appropriately filled the air as a red clay scalp massage soothed tension and a series of blissful relaxation techniques delivered by a dedicated massage therapist using warm cream and peach oil swiftly melted away stress. The comprehensive menu of spa services includes not only manicures, pedicures, facials, and body wraps, but also customized half-day and full-day retreat-style escape packages which focus on physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing for individuals and couples.

Guests are also invited to take advantage of the hotel's room service, the 24-hour fitness center with yoga studio, wet and dry sauna heat experiences, and 60-foot indoor temperature-controlled lap pool area where you may choose to relax with a Mimosa or enjoy a Bento box for lunch. The beautiful grounds of this non-smoking hotel also contain a peaceful and private English garden, the stylish Cafe & Bar for casual yet sophisticated all-day restaurant dining, and Taipan lounge which serves specialty cocktails and hosts jazz artists each Friday night. Furry friends up to 25 pounds can also experience a special pet program featuring MOpup dining, a cozy bed, water bowl, doggie dental kit, a variety of play toys, and more. Strategically located in the prestigious Buckhead neighborhood, the Mandarin Oriental is nestled within easy access to some of the city's top attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium, High Museum of Art, Atlanta Botanical Garden, and premiere shopping experiences like Lenox Square Mall, Phipps Plaza, and the newer Buckhead Atlanta shopping center.

Through an elegant sense of place, beautiful rooms, and a variety of upscale amenities, the award-winning Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group offers luxury and sophistication for distinguished travelers seeking top-notch service and specific attention to detail. The Mandarin Oriental Atlanta is located at 3376 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30326, and reservations can be made by calling (404) 995 7500.
